CELEBRITY  REAL ESTATE WATCH | MARCH 2012

JENNIFER ANISTON BUYS BEL AIR A. QUINCY JONES HOME

Leading lady Jennifer Aniston has bought a midcentury house in Bel-Air that was listed at $24.9 million and is sited is on a 3-acre-plus promontory with unobstructed ocean and city views. It features walls of glass, a bar, a projection room, a wine cellar, four bedrooms and 61/2 bathrooms. The seller was Robert F. Maguire III, who previously has directed the development of over 25 million square feet of institutional-quality projects nationally, restored the 8,500-square-foot house designed by A. Quincy Jones and built in 1965. The sales price has not yet appeared on the public record.  The grounds include a guesthouse, swimming pool and vineyards. Aniston, 42, made a name for herself on television for her Emmy-winning role on "Friends" (1994-2004). Her film "Wanderlust" is due out this month. She recently starred last year in "Just Go With It" and "Horrible Bosses." Maguire founded his company in 1965, took it public in 2003 and left day-to-day operations in 2008. The Los Angeles office landlord is now called MPG Office Trust. At the time he bought the Bel-Air property in 2000 it was listed at $9 million.

MICHAEL JORDAN’S HOUSE HITS THE MARKET AT $29,000,000

Michael Jordan, the patron saint of the Chicago Bulls, has just listed his seven-acre Highland Park compound for $29M. Along with a nine-bedroom, 15-bathroom mansion, the property includes, as expected, a full-sized basketball court. With a few exclusions, the contemporary estate, completed in 1995, will be sold furnished, though we have to wonder if that includes the giant number 23 secured to the front gates. On the whole though, despite the immense size of the place and the hotel-like entry, Jordan fares better than most when it comes to decor. Not that the Nike golden boy needs the cash, but that $29M will help to offset the cost of his 2007 divorce, in which his ex-wife received a $168M settlement. Jordan is also currently engaged, and might be wanting to cast off any bad matrimonial karma. Either way, he'll be lucky to find someone willing to fork over that kind of cash. The taxes alone on this 56,000-square-foot spread are a whopping $165K.

NEW FIANCEE AND A NEW HOME FOR STEVEN TYLER

Wood-framed floor-to-ceiling glass panels on both floors slide back and completely open the traditional pole-built residence to the elements. When completely open, the redwood and ipe wood structure functions as a luxuriously appointed covered terrace with flagstone floors and a floor-to-ceiling (and costly to maintain) aquarium on the lower level. Breezy, open air sleeping porches on the second floor have vaulted, exposed wood beamed ceilings, wood floors and postcard perfect ocean views. This is Steven Tyler’s perfect hideout — a luxury Maui home he and new fiancée Erin Brady picked up recently. Situated on a quarter-acre lot, Tyler’s new home is surrounded by ocean on three sides with plenty of outdoor living spaces to enjoy the views. If the three-sided oceanfront home isn’t enough water for the couple, the property also includes an infinity-edged saline pool and floor-to-ceiling aquarium. The two previously vacationed in Maui over Christmas, when the rocker reportedly popped the question to Brady. They may have checked out a few Maui homes for sale then, too.
Tyler and Brady snagged the piece of Kihei real estate for $4.8 million — $3.2 million less than the most recent listing price reports The Wall Street Journal. It was previously owned by Fred Constant, owner of Constant-Diamond Mountain Vineyard in California’s Napa Valley, who told the Journal he sold the home because he no longer spent enough time at the property. Built in 1988, the 2-bedroom, 3.5-bath home features 3,000 square feet of living space and high-end fixtures like marble countertops. Tyler and Brady are completely embracing a Hawaiian lifestyle, and according to TMZ, recently hired a local religious official to bless their new purchase.
